Shelby Engineering Ltd. has specialized in Geotechnical and Materials Engineering in Edmonton and central Alberta since 1982, and have provided our Environmental Engineering expertise since 1990. Forensic Engineering plays a vital role when problems arise due to damaging interactions with structures caused by soil movements, moisture infiltration, fire and other natural disasters.

Our Geotechnical Engineering Services include foundation design and inspection, slope stability analyses, retaining wall design and evaluation, bearing surface inspections for pile and footing foundations, backfill and compaction monitoring, materials evaluation, and much more, related to residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects of all scopes.

Our Environmental Engineering Services include investigating current and historical information relating to a site, determining whether the potential exists for significant environmental impact on the site, investigating the specific possible sources through sampling and chemical testing, and the subsequent removal, if necessary, of impacted soils to ensure the site meets the most current provincial and Canadian environmental standards.

Our Materials Engineering Services include structure design for concrete, roller compacted concrete and asphalt pavements, assessment of aggregates for acceptability for use in construction projects, mix design, ground improvements utilizing additives, and more.

Our Forensic Engineering Services include investigating causes of distress or failure related to building foundations, slopes, concrete, pavements, floors, moisture ingress and fire damage with a subsequent development of a plan for repairing the distress/failure. Expert witness testimony is required as a facet of a forensic investigation.

Our Materials Testing Services include field and laboratory testing of concrete, soil, asphalt and aggregates, and the inspection of fill placement, steel reinforcement, aggregate crushing and foundation elements such as piles and footings. Shelby is CSA Certified to Category II for field and laboratory testing of concrete and related products.
